I ran my first half marathon. It was awesome! I loved ALMOST every minute of it. My goal was to run the whole thing and not walk at all. I knew the only way to do this was to pace myself at the beginning. That's just what i did. Then at about mile 5 I put some music on and step it up a little. I was feeling good. I actually felt good until I hit mile 11. My aunt joined me at mile 11(she had just finished running her 20 miles for the day). She kept me going and gave me some pep talks. She knew I was fading. Was is really that obvious? Then we hit mile 12 and I wanted to be done. I only had 1.1 miles left. Too bad that last mile felt like eternity. The last .5 miles was absolute hell. It really was. They tricked you and made you think you were done. You had to run past the path to the finish line and make a loop and then come back. Also they failed to mention it was a little over 13.1, which doesn't sound like much but it is huge when you are about to faint. It was soooo mean. I really wanted to walk at that point but I had ran the whole thing so I just pushed myself to the end.
When I past the finish line I couldn't even acknowledge my family because I was so tired and almost in another world. After a couple minutes of walking around I finally was able to talk and see a little. Overall it was a great experience and I am already looking forward to the next one. I am not even close to doing a marathon and really have no desire right now. Maybe in a couple years.
There was one thing missing there. Emily!!! She was the one who talked me into it and she couldn't do it because of an injury. Thanks for getting my butt into gear and making me do this.
I finally got to see my real time. Here it is:
Chip time: 2:22
My avg. min per mile: 10:55
I think I did pretty good considering I only trained for 3 months and it was my first race ever.
My family that supported me
Me, Rushelle(who is 6 months preggo and beat me), and Alicia.
Almost to the finish line
My aunt who ran the last 2 miles with me and who will have completed her 180Th marathon in a couple weeks. Can you say Crazy???

Wow, great job for running the whole time. I'm going to try the half marathon in OC in May. I really hope I can run the whole thing, but right now it's not looking the least bit possible.

Way to go Alisa! I still can't believe your first race ever was a half marathon! That's impressive! Most people start with a 5k or even just a mile! Instead you did 13.1! Good work!
Way to go. I am so proud of you.
